An exploration of physical product customisation, blending handcraft and gaming culture to transform hardware into bespoke art pieces.
In the gaming sector, hardware peripheral design is predominantly dictated by uniform mass production, rarely reflecting the expressive lifestyle influences of streetwear, fashion, or specific gaming subcultures. The challenge was to bridge the gap between digital fandom and industrial design, and create highly durable, premium collectors' items without compromising hardware functionality.
I launched Jenks Customs. Using official first party hardware as my canvas, I crafted a rigorous production pipeline encompassing precise surface preparation, custom stencilling, and professional airbrush application. Each piece drew direct inspiration from major gaming worlds, pop culture, and streetwear. To ensure a premium standard, each controller was finished with automotive grade lacquers to withstand daily use.
The project culminated in the bespoke production and commercial sale of over 150 controllers. Driven entirely by organic marketing and word-of-mouth reputation within the gaming community, the business grew to become the number one ranked seller within its specific niche in the UK on a top online marketplace.
